Alex J. Hall is a composer, singer and musician currently residing in London, UK. A composition graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with First Class Honours, Alex received the Rose Lawrence Award for his academic work and the Edmund Rubbra prize for composition. As a composer he has worked with many ensembles including EXAUDI, City Chamber Choir, Barbican Sinfonia, London Contemporary Orchestra, and soloists including Jonathan Powell, Aino Konkka & students from the Liszt Academy. He was recently selected to participate in Sound and Music's 'Next Wave 2' scheme, which will include a piece written for Royal Northern Sinfonia & Loré Lixenberg to be released on NMC records. He has also composed scores for plays including Lulu (dir. Christian Burgess) and Go Make You Ready (dir. Patsy Rodenburg & Sue Lefton), the latter of which featured on the BBC Iplayer and toured to Shanghai as part of Shakespeare 400.

As a singer, Alex has experience in Opera and Musical Theatre, and has studied with former GSMD Gold Medal winner Ian Kennedy.  In Opera, Alex has been a featured singer in productions of Kagel's Staatstheatre (Milton Court, dir. Loré Lixenberg), Puccini's La Boheme (Frogmore Paper Mill, cond. Audrey Hyland) and, most recently, Vahan Salorian's contemporary opera Boys Of Paradise (EGG London, dir. Anna Pool) which featured as part of the Tete-A-Tete opera festival. Alex has also sung many solo roles in concerts including Strephon in Gilbert & Sullivan's Iolanthe, and has been resident singer with the GSMD Pops Orchestra for 3 years. He has a wide range of skills including perfect-pitch, excellent sight reading and also experience in Jazz and Musical Theatre.
